Greetings fellow DCC fan!
I’m very excited to announce a community driven project we’ve affectionately named “Dungeon Outcasts: Deadly Leftovers”
This project was born out of inspiration for Goodman Games recent Kickstarter “Dungeon Denizens” – which is the very first monster manual for DCC.
During this record breaking Kickstarter, Goodman Games opened the doors to the community to submit their own monsters to be published in the book!
Hundreds submitted their monsters, but sadly, only a couple dozen could be accepted.
This left hundreds of monsters left to the wayside.
Ignored…
Abandoned…
Left to never see the light of day and never get the satisfaction of terrorizing a group of PC’s…
Enter Project Dungeon Outcasts!
Our goal is to take these poor, sad and abandoned monsters and publish them in a community made monster manual for DCC.
Would you like to join us and help out?
GREAT!
But before you jump on our Discord channel to join in on the fun, here’s some things you need to know:
- This is, and will remain strictly a not-for-profit endeavor. No one will make any money from this project.
- The completed works will be made available as a FREE PDF.
- Printed copies will be sold at cost via a print on demand service such as Lulu or DriveThruRPG.

Submission Guidelines:
To keep things as easy as possible on volunteers, and to help streamline things, here are the monster submission guidelines:
How many monsters can I submit? As many as you like. There is no limit, however, it is possible not all will be included as we do have to think about page count of the final product.
Will my monster have any artwork associated with it? You may submit art that you’ve made or had drawn for your monster. This must be black and white. We are currently discussing whether to allow AI art. Please join the Discord channel and give us your thoughts on this.
What Rules Set should I use? This is strictly a DCC fan made volunteer project, so all monster stats need to be for Dungeon Crawl Classics.
Where do I send the submission? Send your submission to sharktopusgames@gmail.com. In the subject line put “Dungeon Outcasts”.
What is the format of the submission? All submissions must be in a single Word document (no pdf’s) and include a Title Page with the information requested below, and the monster. The monster design is limited to the word count presented below.
General Submission Notes:
- Word document manuscripts should be in Times New Roman 12, single spaced, with no custom margins, no page headers/footers, and no shading.
- Typically use U.S. spelling (American English) rather than that of the U.K. (downward vs. downwards, etc.)
- Active, not passive voice. Avoid “will” when describing monster.
- Avoid gender-specific language unless a monster is specifically gendered, use “it”. Do not use “he or she/him or her” constructions. Use the singular “they,” “them,” “theirs,” and so forth. (Once they trigger the trap, it is up to them to…).
What is the Word Limit? Each monster (including 2-3 lore paragraphs and full statistics) must be no longer than 500 words. The title page information does not count against the word count.
Will I get paid for my monster design? No. This is strictly a volunteer, community project. No one is making any money or getting paid. Everything is being done on a volunteer basis. As mentioned above, the PDF will be made available for free and printed copies will be sold at cost.
Who owns the rights for my monster? You do. You retain full copyrights to your monster submission(s) and can have it published elsewhere. However, by submitting a monster for inclusion, you are granting Sharktopus Games LLC, irrevocable rights to publish your monster in perpetuity in this community project.
What information is needed on the title page? On the title page, you must include the following information:
Your Full Name:
Your Email Address:
Your Mailing Address:
Your Phone Number:
Your name as you’d like it to appear in the Credits of the book:
Name of the Monster(s):
Final Word Count:
On the title page, you must include this acknowledgement:
“I acknowledge that the ideas I have submitted may be identical or similar to the theme, plot, idea, format, or other element of material that Sharktopus Games has independently developed, or that has or may come to Sharktopus Games from other sources, and I shall not be entitled to any compensation by reason of the use by Sharktopus Games of such similar or identical material.“
NOTE: if you do not include this acknowledgement on your title page, we WILL NOT consider your monster for publication.
Insert a <Page Break> at the end of the Title page, and then present your monster.
